People often ask me, “What is the secret to success? How did you become world champion bodybuilder, an actor, and the governor of the great state of California?
The answer I give them is, “In my whole life I obeyed these six rules which pushed me towards success and here I’m today. I believed it from my heart that I could accomplish my goals and I fought to prove wrong anyone who told me that I couldn’t.
6 Rules Of Success :
- Trust Yourself
You must have a clear vision in life who do you want to be in this world. So many young people get advice from parents, teacher, and from everyone. But it’s not so important what advice they give. The most important thing is you have to dig deeper inside yourself and find out and ask yourselves, who do you want to be? Not what, but who.
For me, I recognized very fast what my heart is desiring for and it was burning desire to become champion in bodybuilding. I worked hard for it, I didn’t only want to become bodybuilding champion, I wanted to be the best bodybuilder of all time. My way was clear and I was fully confident about my decisions and I went after accomplishing my dream. So when your dream gets clear to you, you are bound to work like anything for that dream. So trust yourself and go for it.
- Break the rules
In life, we have so many different rules for different things. If you have to make yourself capable for the vision you are dreaming for, then you have to think outside the box and break the rules. I say break the rules but not the law. For me, that’s what I believe all the time. After all, what is the point of being on this earth if all you want to avoid trouble and want to be liked by everyone.
After bodybuilding career, I wanted to get into acting and I wanted to be a star in films. Everyone used to tell me “its not your cup of tea” because the rules said actor with accents could not come into this role. I broke that rule, I didn’t care if before me nobody has ever done that. I went for English classes, speech classes, dialogue classes. Accent removal classes I even took. I worked very hard to achieve what I wanted, and I became a leading actor.
- Don’t be afraid to fail
Anything new in my life I ever tried, I was willing to fail. Winning is always there, but you don’t have to be afraid to get fail and make decisions. If fear paralyzes you, it’s impossible for you to push yourself. You only push yourself when you believe in yourself and see your vision as clear as day and most of all you know that you’re doing the right thing, and success will come. So don’t be afraid to fail. Keep failing and keep getting up.
- Don’t listen to the naysayers
You must have heard it many time that you can’t do this and you can’t do that and nobody has done it before? I hear it most of the times. As a matter of fact, I love it when someone says that no one has ever done it before, because then when I do it that means I’m the first person that is making it up. So never pay attention to those people who say you can’t do it or it can’t be done.
If in an early age of life I would have listened to these people, I would still be in Austria. When I was 15 years old and I told people around me that I wanted to be a bodybuilding champion, and they told me it’s not going to happen. It’s impossible, they said. “It’s an American sport. In Austria, you can be a ski, cycling, or maybe track and field champion.
Well I didn’t listen to them and I moved myself and America and focused on my goal and I became bodybuilding champion.
- Work your butt off
It does not matter how big or small your goal is. The main thing here is you need work for it. I never wanted to lose a competition or an election because I didn’t work hard enough. You have got 2h hours in a day and how you spend them is up to you. Sleep 6 hours, and you have 18 hours to do lots of things. Just remember, you can’t climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pocket.
It’s important to have fun in life. But remember when you’re partying, enjoying, someone out there is hustling at the same time to achieve his dream. Someone is getting smarter and is winning. If you want to win in life, you have to get up and work hard for it.
- Give something back
We have this life and we should be thankful for it and the real meaning of life is when you help people. There are millions of children who need help, who come from families that don’t have enough money or don’t read well. Help them learn to read! Encourage people to exercise.
Join an organization where you can give a kid a hug, hand a medal around their neck and say, “ You’re a winner! We believe in you. We love you. We care for you. When you do so, you’ll see that these kids one day will become brightness to this world.
Whatever work or path you choose in life. You must find time to give something back, something back to your community, state or country. Reaching out and helping others will satisfy you and give you peace internally.
